One person was sent to the hospital after being injured in a “crowd surge” event.
AUSTIN, Texas — Large crowds injured one person at the SEC party at the University of Texas on Sunday, according to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS).
“It’s almost impossible to make it through this crowd,” a first responder said on scene. “We’re trying to make contact.”
From 1-10 p.m., the university hosted an event commemorating its new membership with the Southeastern Conference (SEC), which included a ceremony, fireworks show and a chance to see rapper and singer Pitbull perform live for a free concert on the Tower Stage.
The Austin Police Department confirmed there was an “unruly crowd” present on campus, wherein the injured individual was loaded into an ambulance sometime between 9-10:45 p.m.
As of early Monday morning, crews were cleaning up campus following the incident.
