SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) – A 3-year-old girl died after she was hit by a car while leaving a playground unattended, officials said.

The crash happened in Saginaw, Michigan, on Saturday evening near Jesse Loomis Elementary School.

Saginaw police said a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl were both hit by a car.

The preliminary investigation indicates the two girls were leaving the school playground unattended and crossing the street when a car hit them, police said.

Both girls were rushed to an area hospital. Sadly, the 3-year-old died from her injuries.

The 4-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

According to police, the 64-year-old driver has been completely cooperative with the investigation, which is ongoing.
