According to the Brunswick Hills police chief, the child had climbed on a bench and gotten ahold of an unsecured gun.

CLEVELAND — A 3-year-old child is in serious condition after accidentally sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in Brunswick Hills Township, police said. 

According to Brunswick Hills Police Chief Tim Sopkovich, the child was flown to MetroHealth by Lifeflight. 

Police responded to the scene on Marks Road just after 5:30 p.m. 

The incident is believed to be an accident, police said. According to Sopkovich, the child had climbed on a bench and gotten ahold of an unsecured gun.
