Dunwoody High student dies after medical emergency, principal says [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A 15-year-old student died after a medical emergency Monday at Dunwoody High School.

The emergency led to the school being placed on lockdown, and students were held until dismissal.

“We understand the gravity of the situation and have shared the news with our students, teachers, and staff this afternoon,” Dunwoody High principal Tom Bass wrote in a letter to parents. “We are providing the necessary resources and personnel to assist the staff with grief counseling and are here to offer support to anyone affected by this tragedy.”

Fire officials said the girl went into cardiac arrest and was taken to the hospital. The principal said they would not disclose any information about the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

“Our deepest sympathies remain with the student’s loved ones during this challenging period,” Bass wrote.
