Conference held discussing Sound the Alarm campaign [Video]

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Over in West Springfield, a conference was held discussing the Fire Department’s “Sound the Alarm Campaign.”

The initiative was organized in partnership with the Red Cross, with the objective of the campaign being to get working smoke detectors in homes and refresh residents with fire safety tips.

State Fire Marshal Jon Davine told us, “The main thing you can do to protect you and your family in your home is to install working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. If you’re sleeping and something happens to your home you have a fire, that smoke alarm is going to alert you to the danger and allow you adequate time to get out of your residence.”

Prior to Saturday’s conference, volunteer groups of citizens and firefighters installed smoke detectors in the homes of people who had previously requested them.
