NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A worker was flown to a local hospital after a large branch hit them while clearing downed trees from a recent tornado in Maury County, according to the fire department.

MCFD said crews responded to Grace Drive where volunteers from out of state were working with heavy equipment to clear downed trees.

A large branch struck one of the workers, requiring an air medical response.

“MCFD is asking the public to please wear personal protective equipment while operating saws and heavy equipment. Arborist helmets or a combination of hard hats and eye protection along with chainsaw chaps, etc are encouraged for those operating chainsaws to reduce the chance of serious injuries,” the fire department said.

Downed trees from the tornado could be intertwined and could be dangerous, MCFD said.

“Take your time and look at potential movement of limbs when cut. Stay safe!”
