Part of North Dodge Street closed as Iowa City crews respond to reports of downed trees [Video]

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Officials in Iowa City say crews are responding to multiple reports of downed trees after Friday morning’s severe weather.

City staff said the most significant closure is in the 900 block of North Dodge Street. Drivers can use Prairie du Chien Road to Foster Road to avoid the closure.

“Motorists should proceed with caution while streets are cleared,” city leaders said. “If you encounter downed power lines, do not drive over them.”

Residents can report downed trees or power lines blocking road ways by contacting the Joint Emergency Communications Center at 319-356-6800.

City staff also released the following recommendations for yard waste:

“Yard waste can be placed in your composting cart (yellow lid), any brand paper yard waste bags (weight limit of 50 pounds), or bundles (specification requirements below).
