Barry County Jail closes amid safety concerns and needed repairs [Video]

CASSVILLE, Mo. — The Barry County Jail is officially closed as of today.

Sheriff Danny Boyd says the inmates that were housed in the jail have already been transported to nearby county jails, like Webster and Christian County.

Sheriff Boyd tells us that the jail closed due to numerous issues and safety hazards as well as the building’s age.

Plus, he says with the thousands of dollars needed for repairs it’s best to close the jail for the safety of inmates and officers.

“We had some issues with our plumbing in there and it was going to cost quite a bit of money. And we was also going to have to shut it down for short term to to do the maintenance to get that up and going. If we did do the plumbing, fix the plumbing in there.
