911 outage isolated to Mass., did not affect other New England states [Video]

The 911 outage in Massachusetts was isolated to only the Bay State, as other New England state agencies confirmed they did not face a similar outage with their 911 systems.

For roughly two hours, those in emergencies were urged to call the public safety business phone number, public safety alerts sent to smartphones read.

The Rhode Island State Police and the New Hampshire Division of Emergency Services and Communications confirmed that the outage in Massachusetts did not affect them, respectively, according to posts on X.

“The alert was sent to other surrounding states in error and is being investigated by FEMA,” Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a statement. “Maine residents can disregard the alert. Maine 911 is up and running.”

Vermont had no issues with the 911 system during the outage in Massachusetts, Adam Silverman, public information officer for the Vermont State Police told MassLive.
