Mass. high school gets some of athletic equipment returned after misunderstanding [Video]

A Massachusetts high school has begun to get some of its athletic uniforms and equipment back after police said it was stolen during an alumni event.

A “significant quantity of sports equipment‚” was stolen from the old Stoneham High School’s Athletic Training Room, located at 149 Franklin St., during an alumni event hosted at the school on Tuesday, according to the Stoneham Police Department.

Between 350 and 400 people are estimated to have attended Tuesday’s event, authorities said.

Some of the stolen property included football helmets and jerseys, field hockey jerseys and practice shorts, authorities said. The football helmets are valued at $400 each, police said in a press release.

Overall, the thefts affect 10 Stoneham High School fall sports teams, authorities said, possibly impacting their ability to compete in the fall.
