Home health care nurses murder raises concerns over security [Video]

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – The recent murder of a home health care nurse has heightened concerns about worker safety, prompting new legislation aimed at enhancing security for these essential caregivers.

Joyce Grayson, a home care nurse, was tragically found dead in a Willimantic halfway house last October.

Grayson, who left behind four children, including two currently serving in the military, was the victim of violence by Michael Reese, a patient with a violent history and sex offender status.

In response to this tragedy, State Senator Martha Marx, who is also a home health care worker, championed new measures to bolster protection for workers in halfway houses.

Earlier this year, legislation was passed that allocates $6 million in grants to improve security measures for home health care agencies.

The funds can be used to provide escorts and install alarm systems for workers.
