Penny-sized hail and damaging winds forecast with thunderstorms to hit Bristol County Thursday [Video]

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 4:03 p.m. valid until 4:30 p.m. for Bristol County.

The storms are foreseen to bring wind gusts of up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail (0.75 inches).

“At 4:02 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Bristol, moving southeast at 5 mph,” according to the weather service. “Expect damage to trees and power lines.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Fall River, Dartmouth, Bristol, Somerset, Portsmouth, Swansea, Tiverton, Westport and Warren.

The weather service states, “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature’s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.”
