Abilene Regional Airport hosts simulated plane crash exercise [Video]

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Every day, millions of planes safely land across the world. But what happens when things don’t go as smoothly? Are airports prepared for emergencies? That’s what the Abilene Regional Airport demonstrated when hosting an emergency exercise.

The event brought 23 volunteers to act as passengers, and about 17 emergency personnel participated in the simulated plane crash. From the first call, emergency crews need to be quick to respond, especially when the emergency happens after a landing has gone wrong. Although this crash is a simulation, Michael Falkoski, with the Abilene Regional Airport Fire Department, shared that drills like this one help them ensure things will go smoothly when lives are on the line.
