Accident at Lake Camanche: Watercraft entangles victim’s arm [Video]

(FOX40.COM) — A person’s arm was injured after being pulled toward a watercraft and becoming entangled during a boating accident in Calaveras County on Monday afternoon, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said the accident happened on Lake Camanche near the Moccasin Campgrounds at around 1 p.m.

Deputies determined that a personal watercraft was towing someone on an inflatable tube and that the rope was not completely secured to the watercraft. Because of this, the rope had detached several times.

The person in the water was “coiling the rope around his arm” as another person on the watercraft circled back to him when the watercraft sucked in the rope into its propulsion system, with the victim’s arm “pulled to the bottom of the watercraft and becoming entangled,” the sheriff’s office said.

The victim was able to stay above the water while their friends called 911 and a lake manager came to help cut the rope. The victim was taken to a hospital.
