African American Museum board chair shares brief history of museum, its importance to the city [Video]

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – The African American Museum was created in 2006 to showcase the culture and history of people of color in Bowling Green and surrounding areas.

Board Chair of the Board of Trustees for the museum, John Hardin said the museum shares the story of how African American citizens in Bowling Green were able to survive and prosper, despite the challenges they faced.

“The communities that African Americans participated in around Bowling Green were remarkable in the sense that they took advantage of their resources and were able to succeed,” Hardin said.

The museum was originally on the corner of Third and State Street, before moving to its current location on Chestnut Street, known as The Erskine House, in 2014.

Visitors can walk in visit and see several exhibits with artifacts relating to military, education, entertainment, and community contributions.
