African Heritage Inc. hosts celebration ahead of Juneteenth, recognizes black students [Video]

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – Celebrations are now underway in Wisconsin as we approach the Juneteenth holiday.

This includes an event on Sunday, which was held at Jones Park in Appleton, hosted by African Heritage Inc.

The non-profit organization offered free admission, with food, resources, and vendors provided at the event.

The organization helps out black students in the area. We spoke to a student who was lent a hand.

”I am so thankful for everything African Heritage Inc. has poured into me. They are my family away from family,” said Enya Roach, who recently graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a Masters in Science for Professional Counseling. “I just never want to forget where I come from and the people that poured into me.”

During the Juneteenth celebration, it was mentioned that Omolade Academy, a new African-centric school in Appleton, is set to open in August.
