Alabaster Fire getting ready to start their own EMS transport service [Video]

ALABASTER, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabaster Fire is working on a way to get you to a hospital faster by starting their own in-house ambulance service.

Alabaster Fire Chief Tim Love told WBRC their new trucks should be delivered by October, and if everything goes as planned, the service will start January 2025.

Right now, Alabaster Fire does not provide EMS transport. For several years, they relied on a private provider.

“Ever since Covid it has been really hard for anyone to attract paramedics. It’s been a real downturn in public safety jobs in general. The private services are facing it tremendously,” said Love.

As they prepare for this new service, Alabaster Fire is hiring.

“In this year’s budget, we increased 10 positions. Nine of those were firefighter paramedics, and one was a supervisor position to captain over EMS to help manage this new service,” Love said.
