Community members filled a room at an airplane hangar at Lake Hood in Anchorage to hear about two U.S. Navy service members experience aboard the Mercy Hospital ship.
There was at least 800 service members on the ship for the four-month deployment to the Indonesia Pacific. The trip started in San Diego and visited places like Chuuk, Palau and the Republic of Marshall Islands.
Captain Quin experienced some new things and was inspired.
“This is my first time embarking on a hospital ship. It will take, you know, those gifts that I have and translate them into something that can be meaningful to others. I think that’s all we can ever aspire to,” stated U.S. Navy, Captain Brian Quin.
While on this trip, service members performed medical training, surgeries, visited students, helped renovate schools and performed concerts.
Others were tasked with military communications with other countries.
