Ambulance services may be changing in Colorado Springs, how it would impact you next time you call 911 [Video]

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -Big changes may be coming to who responds to your emergencies in Colorado Springs. On Monday, Colorado Springs City Council learned about a proposal that would change who runs the ambulance service. Right now, American Medical Response, AMR, has been the city’s private provider for medical emergencies for decades. A proposal, backed by Colorado Springs Fire Department and Mayor Yemi Mobolade, would have the fire department in charge of those services.

On Monday, CSFD said their response times are faster than AMR, citing a more than 4 minute difference in 2023 medical calls.

“I truly believe that we will have one of the top systems in the United States getting up after we do this,” said Randy Royal, Colorado Spring Fire Chief.

The city’s contract with AMR is set to expire in April of next year, prompting city leaders to look at other avenues.
