An explosion in east Wichita leaves one person dead [Video]

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – An explosion at the Cedarbrooke apartment complex in east Wichita happened shortly before noon.  

“Loudest boom ever. Big boom like big boom and if you ever heard a transformer boom it was louder than that,” said Samantha Naab who lives in the Spanish Villas apartments across the street from Cedarbrooke. 

The fire department, Wichita Police Department and other area agencies were on the scene all afternoon shutting down the road between Harry Street and Rock Road.  

Video sent to us from viewers shows a combination of fire and smoke continuing to grow following the explosion leaving one person dead.  

One person said he heard the explosion all the way in Derby.  

Wyatt Combs, a friend of the deceased, said the two worked together at Auto Zone.
