Anchorage business group propose 3% tax increase to build public projects | News [Video]

As a part of Project Anchorage, the Anchorage Economic Business Development, along with other businesses, are proposing a sales tax increase of 3%. Money from the tax increase would be used to pay for public projects around the city and lower property taxes by 20%.

The aim is for families to stay in Anchorage and make the city more attractive to bring more people in.

There’s some support in the community for the idea.

“I’d be up for it if you know the money is used wisely, if it’s not wasted,” said Kim Boyd, an Anchorage resident. 

And some people in the community share with Your Alaska Link their thoughts about what they would choose to build in the community.

“I would choose homeless situation. Give them a place to go, a program to help for them help themselves, hopefully,” said Leila Coleman-Crowley.
