Arson suspect arrested after Medford house fire | CrimeWatch [Video]

MEDFORD, Ore. – Medford Police have arrested an arson suspect connected to last night’s house fire. The woman — Candice Hastings — is being charged with first-degree arson, first-degree animal abuse, reckless burning and resisting arrest.

MPD told NewsWatch 12 that the 31-year-old woman, who is believed to be homeless, was found in the area of Narregan and Bliss Streets about 15 minutes after they received calls of a house fire in that neighborhood.

“Witnesses and some other evidence put her at the scene when the fire was initiated,” MPD Lieutenant Don Lane told NewsWatch 12. “She was found a short distance away within about 15 minutes of the call for service. Based on the evidence she had on her and the witness statements, we do firmly believe that she’s responsible for starting the fire.”
