“Read to Me Tea” is an art competition hosted by the Comprehensive Therapy Center for students.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A local therapy center just wrapped up its 19th annual art competition for students at the center.

Read to Me Tea is an art competition designed to celebrate the creativity and talents of neurodiverse students.

The therapy center serves local schools that don’t have enough funding to hire their own special education staff.

“Our speech pathologist and occupational therapists go into the schools and serve the kids through special education. Those are the kids that participate in this event, and we’re able to celebrate them. They get to win something, they get a certificate, and they get acknowledged for their abilities, which is rare in their life.” said Ellen Sawyer, executive director at the Comprehensive Therapy Center.
