Ashville High School grieving the loss of a student [Video]

ASHVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – Grief counselors were made available Friday as Ashville High School students work to process the loss of a fellow student.

The St. Clair County Patrol Division was called to the Shoal Creek area of Ashville on Thursday. A 17-year-old boy hit his head while swimming and was unresponsive. CPR was administered on scene, and he was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital in St. Clair County.

Deputies say the teenager died shortly after arriving at the hospital. School officials say the young man was a student at Ashville High School, leaving a community grieving over this tragedy.

Clinical Social Worker Tekeisha Goggins says being supportive is a start.

“You’re in shock, you can’t even believe this happened so, how do you feel? Before we talk about grief we need to talk about how do you feel. Kind of helping them develop a vocabulary for their feelings,” said Goggins.
