Assembly considering ordinance that would designate parking areas for homeless living in vehicles [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage Assembly and Mayor Dave Bronson are expected to take action on Thursday over an ordinance amending municipal code and providing those experiencing homeless in Anchorage with safe, designated parking areas.

Anchorage Assembly Members Felix Rivera, Karen Bronga and Randy Sulte said they are putting forth the ordinance as the transition out of emergency cold weather shelters looms. The ordinance, as written, is a different version of one the administration initially brought forward that is also focused on safe parking areas. It splits a parking space provision off from that initial legislation after the Anchorage Assembly’s attorney was reported to have had “serious issues” with the first version.
