Athletes gear up for 10th annual Gaylord Gauntlet 5k [Video]

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Hundreds of athletes are gearing up for Gaylord Hospital’s annual obstacle course run.

Among the racers are dozens with significant physical challenges.

The 5k course features two dozen obstacles.

More than 1,000 athletes are signed up to take on the gauntlet.

Dozens have significant physical challenges, like spinal cord injuries, visual impairments, and amputations.

They have been training hard, and they’re not letting anything stop them from taking on the course.

“People are telling me, ‘You’re crazy, this can’t happen, you’re not going to walk,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m going to walk,’” said Meagan Ricci, Athlete.

Not only did she walk, but Meagan tore through the mud pit on her way to finishing her first Gaylord Gauntlet 5k.

“When it hurts it’s probably when you’re going to make a breakthrough, so keep pushing,” Ricci said.
