Authorities Urge Greater Caution on Roads During 100 Deadliest Days [Video]

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Capt. Bryan Niewind of the North Dakota Highway Patrol had several incidents come to mind when asked about recent accidents in the state.

“We had a head-on crash that happened down by Lisbon on highway 27 that resulted in three fatalities,” he recalled. “We just had a head-on crash last week in the city of Horace with two vehicles involved, four teenagers were injured in that crash.”

These are, unfortunately, par for the course this time of year.

“We call it hundred deadliest days of the year because it truly is. We have way too many crashes during that time frame.”

Niewind says a variety of factors make crashes more lethal in this window. More drivers on the roads. Alcohol consumption for holidays such as the Fourth of July. Increased amounts of construction.
