Autism Acceptance Month: Francisco’s Story [Video]

By the time Francisco was a year and eight months old, his mother, Norma, suspected that he may be developmentally delayed. “He never really talked until he was like 7 years old.” It wasn’t until he was enrolled in school that he got a diagnosis of autism and ADHD.

Norma was concerned about the impact his would have on Francisco’s future, but with the help of the Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services, Francisco learned the practical skills and soft skills that would prepare him for the workforce and start him on his professional journey.

As Francisco explores his next goal to attend culinary school, Vocational Rehabilitation is available to support him. Whether clients want to enhance their existing skills or switch to a different career, VR is there to help them achieve their goals.
