The bird was sent to a flight pen rehabilitation center and will be released upon full recovery.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — An American bald eagle recently taken in for treatment has been released to a rehabilitation center appearing “extremely healthy,” according to Polk County Animal Control.

The eagle was first taken to the Raptor Center of Tampa Bay, where she was X-rayed and evaluated for injuries. She weighed in at 9.7 lbs and had a great prognosis.

After the Raptor Center, she was brought to the Audubon Society, where she will rehabilitate in a flight pen until fully recovered.

Many commenters on Animal Control’s post about the bird’s original status were concerned about her mate.

“… this bird probably has a mate that is now in severe distress,” said commenter Christina Hansen.

The animal control later confirmed in a post early Thursday that “her mate will take full responsibility of her eaglets until she returns.”
