The fraudster who faked cancer to promote her lucrative wellness brand has been rejected by the Ethiopian group who reportedly ‘adopted her’ and carried out fundraising pursuits in their name, a new documentary claims.

Belle Gibson, now 32, from Melbourne, claimed to suffer from a malignant brain tumour, which she said she’d cured with diet, exercise and alternative medicine therapies.

Her fabrications came to light in 2015, exposing her as a bare-faced liar. Then, in another bizarre move, she joined a group representing the Oromo people of Ethiopia, and even started speaking in broken English. 

In the  ITV documentary, Instagram’s Worst Con Artist, journalist Richard Guilliatt revealed the community later learned of Belle’s past, saying: ‘She’s been going to meetings and calling herself Sabontu and speaking in broken Ethiopian dialect. 

‘They were shocked to find out who she is, and she ends up being rejected by that community.’
