Beware of storm chasing scams promising repairs [Video]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – In the wake of Tuesday’s damaging storm, protect yourself from storm chasers.

The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau says natural disasters like storms and tornadoes can bring out the best in people. We’ve seen it with neighbors helping neighbors this week.

But it can also bring in the worst. The BBB wants you to watch for out-of-town contractors soliciting business and taking advantage of people. Watch out for people who offer quick fixes or make big promises.

There are some things you should do when hiring any contractor so you don’t fall victim to a scam.

First, call your insurance company. As them about your policy coverage and specific filing requirements.

Save all of your receipts, including food and temporary lodging.

Do your research. Find businesses you can trust on BBB.org. You can also get references from friends and relatives.
