Beyond Paradise‘s hapless detective Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) proposed to his long-time love Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) in the latest instalment of the BBC police procedural. However, while fans gushed congratulations, many were more concerned with a huge lie the couple told about their domestic situation.

Earlier in the episode they had a home visit from a social worker as they took the next step in their journey to foster a child. As they were told that living on a boat might limit the age of the children they would be asked to look after for safety reasons Humphry panicked. “We’ve got the house,” he exclaimed.
