Bicyclist sideswiped by truck, speaks out on how to stay safe on the roads [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – May is National Bicycle Safety Month.

Practicing safe driving is especially important in the Wilmington community, where both drivers and cyclists often share the road.

It’s prompting cyclists like 20-year-old Ashley Stein to speak out on the importance of biker safety.

Back in October, Stein was involved in a hit-and-run accident that changed her life forever.

Stein was biking along a rural road when she noticed a truck carrying a trailer driving recklessly in the middle of the road.

As she was going around a bend, the truck driver crashed into her, sideswiping her body.

“It was coming towards me. Whenever they were coming in the past, their trailer basically smacked the side of my body,” she explained.

The accident landed her in the hospital with a massive hematoma on the side of her leg.
