A BNSF train travelling northwest of Ryegate derailed from its tracks in rural Golden Valley County early Monday.
In all, 26 rail cars left the track, damaging some of those cars in the process; all were empty, according the Golden Valley County sheriff’s office. There were no injuries.
The derailment also severely damaged the tracks.
BNSF is at the derailment site, located outside the township of Franklin. Crews there will work on repairing the tracks and removing the damaged train cars.
“BNSF will be working over the next couple of days to get the railroad back running, so Wallum Road from US 12 to Hedgesville Road will be closed to traffic,” said Undersheriff Mark Olson. “Please stay out of the area so that they can get their work done.”
