BNSF train derails in west-central Iowa [Video]

RED OAK, Iowa (WOWT) – A BNSF train derailed in the small Iowa town of Red Oak, hitting a parked vehicle with someone inside it.

Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency said its communications center got a call from Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad just after 6 a.m. Thursday notifying them about the derailment of four grain cars near east Nuckols Street and Bluegrass Road.

One of the cars hit a Railcrew Xpress vehicle, , according to the county EMA update. The driver was able to get themselves out of the vehicle, and they were transported by ambulance to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Meanwhile, officials said that the area would be closed “for an extended period of time for cleanup.”
