Board of Zoning Adjustments approves temporary Amtrak platform [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Board of Zoning Adjustments approved a special exception zoning request on Monday for an Amtrak platform.

The proposed platform would sit in the general business district right next to the Convention Center and Cooper Riverside Park. That area is zoned for retail goods and services, certain wholesale and limited manufacturing and distributing.

For an exception to be granted, there are 12 factors it must meet including safety and compatibility with surrounding areas in the district.

“It was a milestone day for Amtrak, the Southern Rail Commission, and the City of Mobile,” Vice President of State Service Line at Amtrack Ray Lang said.
