GRAND ISLE, La. (WVUE) – A 10-year-old girl pulled out of rough waters off the shore of Grand Isle on Sunday (May 26) was airlifted for emergency medical treatment, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before the body of a 13-year-old who drowned in the area Saturday was discovered washed ashore, Grand Isle Police chief Scooter Resweber told Fox 8.

“It’s just a very turbulent Gulf of Mexico right now,” Resweber said.

The identity of Saturday’s drowning victim has not been disclosed, but authorities said the boy disappeared under choppy waves about 15 feet off the end of a jetty near the Bridge Side Marina around 2:45 p.m. Following a search assisted by the United States Coast Guard, the boy’s body was discovered washed ashore shortly after noon Sunday.
