Boyle County KY emergency responders hold seminar on mental health resources [Video]

DANVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Emergency responders are bound to run into situations where mental health expertise is needed. Boyle County has received a grant from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Department for Medicaid Services to enhance what can be done for the community.

A training event on Wednesday brought out emergency responders to highlight the $850,000 grant, which will be used for crisis intervention. Boyle County EMS director Mike Rogers said this has always been a huge need for his team.

“We talk about the number 2.4 million E.R. visits in one year. 50% are related to medical and trauma, while 50% are related to substance use and mental health problems. We’re making these runs already, so I feel it would be irresponsible as EMS service director, not to address the mental health problem that we’re experiencing throughout the state and in our community,” Rogers said.
