Brian Bromberg Pays Tribute to a Legend on LaFaro No Treble [Video]

Scott LaFaro was only 25 when he tragically died in a car accident in 1961, but the body of work he left changed jazz bass playing for good. He influenced the majority of today’s best bassists. That includes Brian Bromberg, who has just released a trio album in his honor.

LaFaro sees Bromberg swinging hard with pianist Tom Zink and drummer Charles Ruggiero as they perform songs that LaFaro put his stamp on. The trio leans into songs from LaFaro’s time with pianist Bill Evans: “Solar,” “Nardis,” “Blue in Green,” and more. They also cover the LaFaro’s own composition, “Gloria’s Step,” while Bromberg offers his own tune, “Scotty’s Song.”
