Children and Teens are faced with the reality of death in their families, neighborhoods, and city at greater rate than ever before. Professionals often find they are desiring of more tools and understanding of how to support the grieving children and families in the community. In this webinar series professionals will be provided with both instructional and experiential content to better equip them to provide a healing relational experience for children and teens who have experienced death

Understanding Children’s Grief

Learning Objectives:
1) Participants will have a shared understanding of what children’s grief is.
2) Participants will understand the benefits of grief support and when to refer a child to grief support groups

Presenter Bio: Lisa Duke is the Program Coordinator at Bridges Center for Grieving Children and Camp Erin – Tacoma Director, both in Tacoma, WA. She is also the Pediatric Grief and Loss contact for bereavement follow up for pediatric deaths in Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. She has worked with grieving children and families for 12 years. Lisa worked with children and families in community mental health for 6 years in New York City before moving back to the NW. Her start in social work came in Seattle and her work with New Horizons Ministry where she was the first coordinator of their program to young women involved in the sex trade. She enjoys most things creative, playing pickleball with her husband, and traveling to be with their two adult daughters.
