Authorities say the fire is contained, but crews are still active near Edmond Highway and Northcutt Road.

PELION, S.C. — Residents near Pelion can expect smoky conditions as Lexington County Fire Services crews respond to a brush fire that initially threatened homes near a portion of Edmund Highway.

A spokesperson for Lexington County said fire crews, members of Lexington County Emergency Medical Services and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department were sent to a brush fire in the 100 block of Northcutt Road and the 7000 block of Edmund Highway (Hwy. 302) around 2:10 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found a fast-moving brush fire and contained it before it reached homes. The South Carolina Forestry Commission and the Lexington Fire Service are still at the initial location, and drivers should use caution as fire trucks shuttle water to the scene.
