Burlington County prosecutor investigates day camp death [Video]

MANSFIELD TWP., N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A grief counselor was on site Tuesday at a South Jersey day camp where a six-year-old boy died on Monday.

A letter sent by Liberty Lake Day Camp owner Andy Pritikin said he is devastated and heartbroken, informing families of campers about what happened. He says a lifeguard pulled the unresponsive boy out of the shallow pool on Monday. They performed CPR, but the boy died a short time later at the hospital.

The boy’s name has not been released.

A licensed social worker who works exclusively with children has been on-site to speak with campers and their families about the tragedy.

Pritikin says he understands there will be questions, and he will work to answer all of them as more information comes out. In the meantime, he asks parents to hug their little ones a little tighter, and he asks that camp staff be given a little time to process this unthinkable moment.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating.
