Buying weed at the wheel deserves another look in N.J. | Editorial [Video]

Ever since the spring, law enforcement has announced a crackdown on driver behavior on the White Horse Pike in Camden and Atlantic counties, a traditional, pre-expressway route (U.S. 30) from Philadelphia to the Jersey Shore.

The pike appears to be a recent magnet for fatal crashes and other serious accidents in a state where — in contrast to national statistics — highway-related deaths have been increasing.

The first salvo came from Camden County, which announced in May that it is using a $400,000 federal grant to increase police coverage for six months on that county’s stretch of the road. Since 2010, officials noted, there have been 80 deaths and more than 11,000 crashes.
