‘Campus Self-Defense Act’ in effect across West Virginia [Video]

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – Senate Bill 10, also known as the Campus Self-Defense Act, was officially enacted on July 1st across the entire state.

The act allows a person to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on the property of an institution of higher education, as long as they have a valid license to carry. Since it was passed by the legislature in 2023, WVU officials have spent months preparing for campus carry.

Dean of Students Corey Farris said they’re more than ready.

“I think we’ve done well preparing the campus, faculty, staff and students, as well as the physical preparations, from signs to metal detectors to building gun lockers,” Farris said. “I think we’re very ready.”

Dean Farris is also the co-chair of the Campus Safety Steering Group, a group assigned to ease the campus into the self-defense act, while also working on safety additions like the lockers and signs. Gun …
