Car destroyed, woman rescued in late-night Burton fire [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Crews with the Burton Fire District saved a woman from a late-night fire Tuesday that damaged two structures and a car.

Officials say they battled the fire starting just before midnight, with the fight continuing into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Multiple 911 calls reported explosions and an out-of-control fire in the woods in the area of Adams Circle. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke as well as two structures and a car fully involved in fire.

A nearby home was threatened by the flames, trapping a woman in the back of her home as she could not cross the street because of that fire.

Firefighters had to carefully approach the fire through the trees in light of the low visibility caused by the smoke. Additionally, there were downed power lines which were still live as they were attempting to reach the blaze.
