CASA holds event to spread awareness for child abuse [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Rapid City’s Seventh Circuit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) held an event Friday at the Mother Butler Center to raise awareness about child abuse and recognize those who fight it.

CASA is a national organization that pairs foster children with adult volunteers who advocate for their well-being. With April being Child Abuse Awareness Month, Rapid City’s local chapter brought its members and partners together to celebrate those who fight for at-risk children.

“We really invite all our partners and anybody in the community who’s interested in understanding child welfare,” Kehala Two Bulls said, Seventh Circuit CASA’s executive director. “And most importantly, in being part of the solution.”

Though child abuse is a grim subject, the event was permeated by a positive atmosphere with live music and activities for children.

“It’s central to us that kids feel safe and kids have joy opportunities,” Two Bulls explained. …
