Cell service providers ramp up disaster relief efforts ahead of 2024 hurricane season [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Cell phone providers are making sure their crews are ready as we head into what’s expected to be a busy hurricane season.

Communications giant AT&T has five warehouses filled with specialized equipment strategically placed throughout the country for quick deployment during a natural disaster. One of those warehouses is in metro Atlanta.

Their massive building, which Atlanta News First agreed not to disclose its location because of security reasons, is filled with dozens of trailers, countless generators and other heavy equipment that helps them traverse storm-damaged land. Powerful storms like hurricanes not only have the potential to damage homes and businesses but communication infrastructure as well.

“We typically, if it’s a large hurricane, will be sending in 60 to 70 people,” said Kelly Morrison, technology management for AT&T.
