Charleston Co. 911 seeks grant for violence prevention program [Video]

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County Consolidated Emergency Communications Center is seeking approval for grant funding for a program that aims to improve training and resources for local prevention.

The $523,602.77 grant is provided by the Department of Homeland Security through the 2024 Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program.

No match is required from the county.

Charleston County Consolidated Emergency Communications Center Project Officer Jamie Harrison says the center, along with its public safety and mental health partners, was previously awarded this grant in 2022.

That award was for $198,000 to develop a foundational training program for the county.

“Our main goals with this grant were to get everyone speaking the same language and have everyone get that baseline foundational level understanding of what the current threat management landscape is,” said Harrison.
