Cherokee County father arrested after infant daughter hospitalized with severe injuries, sheriffs office says [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Cherokee County father is facing charges after his 10-week-old daughter was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said their detectives were called to Scottish Rite Hospital Monday about an infant who had possibly been abused.

The sheriff’s office said the 10-week-old infant was being treated in the pediatric intensive care unit for severe injuries to her mouth and throat, and multiple broken bones in her legs, ribs and ankles.

After interviewing the girl’s mother and father, detectives arrested the father, John Azzolino, 35, of Woodstock.

Azzolino was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children. The sheriff’s office said more charges are likely.

Azzolino remains in custody without bond.

The sheriff’s office said the mother is cooperating with detectives and has not been charged at this time.
