CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – City officials in the Carolina Bay area say changes should be made to promote public safety on a portion of Glenn McConnell Parkway.
District Five Councilmember Karl Brady is addressing cost-effective measures to improve an intersection connecting the newly developed Essex Farms Drive to the parkway.
“Drivers do have a nice, protected turn. But what’s happening in the mornings is, to exit Carolina Bay on Essex Farms Drive, the intersection is becoming gridlocked. Where traffic is stopping in the intersection as the light continues to cycle,” Brady says.
Brady said peak travel times create serious safety hazards for essential emergency services, school buses, and similar vehicles to access the Essex Farm Drive area.
Charleston County officials leading the parkway project say they are planning to take Brady’s suggestions for “do not block intersection” signs and restriped centerline pavement markings into action.
